Podcast Beta / Quick Start

Quick Start Guide

This guide is intended to help you quickly create and publish your first Podcast using Podcast Beta.

  1. Create the Podcast
  2. Add Items to your Podcast
  3. Publish

What Will You Need?

Once you have your own account with Podcast Beta, all you need to create your first Podcast are the MP3 file(s) that you wish to Podcast.

Step 1: Create the Podcast

We will assume that you have already logged in to Podcast Beta. Once you have done so click on the 'Podcasts' tab on the top right hand side of the screen to access the Podcasts menu. From here you will see an option labelled 'Create a New Podcast', clicking on this will launch the Podcast creation wizard.

This page contains a number of fields that relate to your Podcast. These are:

  • Title:
This is the title of your Podcast. This will be the means of identifying it, so it pays to be reasonably descriptive. A good example might be "Chairman John Smiths Speeches".

  • Link:
This is a link that is included within your Podcast. Typically this will be the address of your website.

  • Description:
This describes the Podcast in a little more detail. A good example may be "A repository of Chairman John Smith's highy engaging speeches on topics such as revenue generation and profit forecasting".

  • Language:
This specifies the language that the Podcast is in.

Step 2: Add Items to your Podcast

You are now ready to begin adding items to your Podcast. Upon pressing next from the previous page, you may be asked to accept a security warning - you need to accept this to allow a small piece of software to be run which enables you to transfer MP3 files from your computer to Podcast Beta.

Once the page has successfully loaded, you will be able to see a window with two panes; on the left click on the MP3 audio file(s) that you wish to include within the Podcast before clicking the button labelled '>>' to transfer them.

When you've transferred the files you would like to use, press the next button to continue. You will now be presented with a list of files that you can add to your Podcast. Checking the button next to the file(s) that you wish to use will reveal two further inputs.

  • Title:
This has already been pre-populated by information contained within the file. However, if you would like to change this you can enter a new title to identify the item. A good example might be "John Smith's Speech 13th July 2005".

  • Description
This describes in more detail what this individual item contains. An example could be "John Smith passes comment on the last quarters revenues and discusses methods that could be employed to improve on them in the future".

Step 3: Publish

Now you've added the items that you wish to include within the Podcast, you are ready to publish it. The next page contains a summary of both the Podcast and it's contents. Once you're happy with the Podcast, click the 'Publish Now' button. Your Podcast will be published and you will be given a link that you can use to subscribe to your Podcast.
