Introduction to Podcasting

What is Podcasting?

A Podcast is a means of publishing radio style shows or other audio feeds via the Internet. These shows or feeds can then be subscribed to by listeners, allowing them to receive new content as it is published.

Podcasts can be thought of as 'radio on demand'. Instead of tuning in when a radio show is broadcast, listeners can instead opt to receive new content when it is published, but listen to it at their own convenience.

The applications that allows listeners to receive Podcasts are often termed 'Podcatching' software. These applications are capable of automatically retrieving new updates to Podcasts as and when they're published. Podcatchers often also have the ability to synchronise with portable MP3 players, allowing Podcasts to be listened to on the go.

What does Podcast Beta do?

For those users or organisations that wish to publish their own Podcasts but are unsure of how to do so, the Podcast Beta application can help you. It is a web-based tool that enables you to quickly and effectively publish your Podcast.

The Podcast Beta application is a one-stop solution to Podcasting. All you need to provide is the audio content that you wish to publish - and the application takes care of the rest.

What's more, there is no need for you to worry about hosting options for your Podcasts. Podcast Beta takes full advantage of our own in-house Digivault asset hosting system to ensure the highest possible level of availability for your Podcasts; even if they're likely to attract a very high number of listeners.
